Normally I wouldn’t do something like this, but it’s too good not to pass on to anyone who is interested and qualifies. For those who don’t know, West Virginia’s education horizon is a Microsoft state. Every staff and student K-12 has their own Microsoft account, packed with all the usual features and then some. With Microsoft soon to be releasing its education version of Minecraft, the governor of West Virginia will be hosting a design/building contest.
The rules are simple:
1. Open to any WV student PK-12, including homeschool and private school students.
2. Build a replica of the state Capitol building OR design your own state Capitol building for WV, making sure to include the key components of any Capitol building.
3. Register here as an individual or as part of a team. There are three grade band levels: elementary, middle, and high school. Make sure to register by June 20 to be entered in the contest!
4. Complete and submit your project by 11:59 PM on July 31st, 2016. You’ll need to email your entry to firstname.lastname@example.org
As for the prizes? Well that’s where it’s even better! Each grade band will have 1 winner in the replica category, and in the new design category. There’s over $6,000 in prizes to be had.
